Dried pink ivory-- Bowl blanks like this in dried wood are super hard to get. Only a tiny percentage of slabs can make good dried bowl blanks such as this one. (cutting them wet is
much easier, but it is really hard to dry them without cracks and takes about 2 years per inch of thickness or a vacuum kiln and some luck!)
DRIED TO 11% or LESS

NOTES:
These Bowl blanks were cut from the same thick board. All are basically the same in figure, color etc. All have been carefully dried over years.

Dried completely and the grades are Piece S: IQ,
and Piece T IQ/IQ2.
French boxwood that can produce this size is not
something we can find. This was from a one time rare log harvested
over 40 years ago.
RARE: this wood is so hard to get it is almost unknown in quality pieces like this for sale, anywhere (search on the net to find out what I'm talking about).
Pieces not shown below or that give an out of stock notice in the shopping cart are sold.

Lychee with some nice figure.
Took a number of years to dry the lychee, it is very difficult to dry without
causing checks as it is extremely dense. Not that hard to sand though.
Note that dense wood does not necessarily mean
it is hard to sand. Seems to depend on grain structure more than
density.
Missing pieces below, and any that give an out of
stock notice in the cart were previously sold.

Wonderful dried and figured pieces that
look just like Koa, at a fraction of the price.
These all came from a very large slab. It was part of the outside of a
large tree and every bit of it was figured. Some Australian
blackwood looks more like the photo at the top of this page, but this slab
produced pieces that look so much like koa I cannot tell them apart from Koa,
and
I cannot guarantee that this isn't really koa that was mis-identified as
Aussie Blackwood.
