Red Gator Burl AtoL

Red Gator or Red Alligator burl is another name for Vasticola burl.  It looks like an alligator pattern with a very intense red (at least the best ones do).  The burl was dried for a number of years and then cut.   Origin of these is Australia.    Density is way up there, I haven’t checked it but likely harder than true Lignum Vitae.    Even though it is very hard, it is really nice to sand and produces a fantastic finish.   We superglue soaked the outsides a few times to fill the natural “eyelashes”.  Eyelashes are tiny crescent moon slits that naturally appear near the burl eyes on some burls, thus we call them “eyelashes”.   You don’t have to do this, but the final finish is a little better/smoother.
