View of endgrain--beautiful!
Spalted Tamarind is a beautiful
wood from Southeast Asia. Much of this wood comes from logs that
were either found on the forest floor or were cut and then allowed to spalt
in the very damp warm conditions of the jungle. The colors and various
line patterns are tuly unique from one piece to another. The patterns are created as a result of insects, so expect insect holes in all spalted woods. Use a good
dust mask with any type of spalted wood when you work on it. Some educated experts are now saying there is no danger, but we would rather you stay on the safe side, wear a dust mask anyway.
