Brazilian Kingwood

This is Brazilian Kingwood. It is a genuine rosewood and becoming rare in quality pieces like these. Last time imported was about 5 years ago, but that was just a very small amount and before that it was many years prior for the last time allowed out of Brazil. We hope it will be allowed out of Brazil again, but the current situation is that we will likely run out in the near future.

Briar Burl AtoH

Briar Burl is a special wood usually used for making smoking pipes. It also turns out to be a great wood for woodworking too. Very easy to sand even though it is hard and the results are great. This is a very difficult wood to produce, the burls are odd small shapes with holes cracks and stones in the them. This is why you almost never see high quality blanks for sale, just the burls. The labor is prohibitive, but we like to make some for our customers from time to time because they are really interesting. Note: Prices actually went down from the last time we offered these years ago, we just got a better yeild this time!

Boxwood 4 to 16

Genuine dried Boxwood. This type is Buxus Macowannii. A true buxus species and has a very fine grain, as this was taken from South Africa where it apparently grows quite slowly. Great quality material. It is a lot of labor to make these pieces, but we feel it is worth it to offer material that is top quality. When pieces are the general size of a Knife handle blank, we just label them as knife blanks. They can be used for all sorts of purposes though. Grades, see the description for boxwood. TG = Turning Grade, IQ = Musical Instrument Grade, IQ2= Almost musical instrument grade

Brazilian Tulipwood Boards

High quality dried pieces in this rare genuine rosewood. It was last imported into the USA about 13 years ago. Brazil has not allowed more out of the country since that time. Usually when you do find boards for sale, they are with checks. This is because almost every tulipwood board has checks in the center that run vertically up the board. These are different, we have cut them from the area without checks, to the side of the center. We also do have some normal tulipwood boards in 4/4, inquire if interested.
