Ebony 307 to 313
Black Ebony dried pieces. We show them unfinished to make sure you can see the wood. Most vendors don't do that, because if you put enough clear coat or wax over ebony you can make it look black in a photo even if the color is really off. These will be jet black or close when a finish is applied. We will need to put a finish on them before shipping to you to prevent damage in the mail. Grades of each piece are noted in the picture. If there is more than one grade shown, it is between the two grades. It is interesting to note that all of these (except 307) started out as rough 1.5 x 1.5 x 12's. After drying them and removing all the cracks and bad areas this is what is left (sometimes it doesn't work out this well). We do have some bulk 1.5 x 1.5 x 12's and you can see why they sell for much less, you lose about 40% of the wood on average to get them into this quality. I've cut more than a thousand pieces over the years, and losses average around 40% when buying waxed pieces. That is why all ebony that is for sale is not equal.

Gmelia Burl
Some unusual burls for one time sale. NOTES: The American elm burl has been soaked in superglue which was then sanded off multiple times. You likely will have to glue it more on the inside but we really worked all the glue in we could from the outside. These were so extraordinary for elm I decided to put a couple hours+ additional work into them just to make them nice. We have no more elm like these, nor have I seen any for sale. The Gmelia burl is the last piece we have in the shop, and it is a very nice solid and pretty piece.
Piece 7

Holly A-L
This is American Holly, (ilex opaca). The wood has been become rare on the market due to the difficulty in getting white pieces. For decades almost the whole country relied on just one individual who had the special skill and equipment to acquire holly and dry it white. He has now retired. On its own, Holly dries to a grey color with green streaks. It must be dried rapidly and correctly in a vaccuum kiln to get white pieces. Note that holly, when it is polished is at best ivory white with some grain showing. Sometimes it looks whiter when rough cut. These are almost the whitest the wood can be. We currently cannot replace them.

Holly TtoY
American Holly. These tend to have an off white color that looks a little grey in most cases. Dried (all holly must be dried rapidly after cutting). We have sanded these so you can see the true color. Be aware that holly when it is rough cut looks a lot more white than it really is. These actually looked nearly white when they were rough cut. Sanding and polishes shows the color more accurately so we've done that for you.

Figured Ceylon Satinwood
These thicker pieces have been fully slow dried over many years. A wood that is nice to work, has great figure and changes appearance from every light angle. This makes the full extent of the figure hard to show in photos, you really need a video for something like this. A favorite of woodturners and other woodworkers for many years. ALL are GG+/GG grade
