New Woods

Black & White Ebony 20 – 25

Dried micro lumber in this rare true type of Ebony. These were dried for years under careful conditions and are ready to use. Normally this wood is sold wet, making it very difficult for the home woodworker, since this type of wood is one of the most difficult of all exotics to dry without getting large amounts of cracks and warpage. Once dry it is fairly stable though.

Black & White Ebony A-Q

Nice dry pen blanks in Black and White Ebony. Black and White Ebony is pretty hard to get now, as most of it comes from Laos, where exports have been stopped. All our stock is old stock as it has been years since the last shipment.

SKU N/A Wood Name: Wood Type:
Koa L to R

Koa is now a rare wood. Pieces of Hawaiian Koa with figure like this are very hard to find for sale anywhere. These are all thin slices and might be a little thicker on one side than the other. The measurements show the smallest thickness area. We have had these for years, and there is no way we can get more stock of the quality you see in most of the pieces shown.

SKU N/A Wood Name: Wood Type:
Koa E to K

Koa is now a rare wood. Any pieces here that are figured would cost us more to replace then the prices for the items. Prices have risen so quickly that we don’t plan to buy koa again any time soon.

Pernambuco 1 to 14

These are Genuine Pernambuco. These are all unusual pieces that have other color wood and also spalted areas in some cases. We have glued most of them with superglue and the spalted areas have been heavily glued to harden them if necessary. Normally just the orange part of the wood is sold, but we thought these were interesting. The cost is only for the orange part, the other parts of the wood are basically included “free”.

SKU N/A Wood Name: Wood Type:
Pernambuco W to Y

Pernambuco is rarely seen for sale. It was last imported about 24 years ago and these were from stock imported around 1995. This is different from the more common wood Chakte Viga which is readily available. These bowl blanks are the only genuine pernambuco bowl blanks I have seen on the market in years. Also, note that some vendors call Chakte Viga as Pernambuco also, but it is not the same species. A Rare opportunity to get this wood, which was sold out most places about 15+ years ago.

SKU N/A Wood Name: Wood Type:
Pernambuco i to S

This is genuine Pernambuco. Pernambuco was last imported around the year 2000. There is another orange wood, Chakte Viga (we sell this too) which is somewhat similar to Pernambuco. Some vendors call Chakte Viga by the name Pernambuco. The ones we are selling here are the original ones called Pernambuco, which is also known as Brazilwood. (That is where Brazil got its name by the way). Used by makers of violin bows for centuries, this wood has become rare and heavily protected in the wild. It is not allowed to be exported from Brazil for about 24 years or so.

Holly TtoY

American Holly. These tend to have an off white color that looks a little grey in most cases. Dried (all holly must be dried rapidly after cutting). We have sanded these so you can see the true color. Be aware that holly when it is rough cut looks a lot more white than it really is. These actually looked nearly white when they were rough cut. Sanding and polishes shows the color more accurately so we’ve done that for you.
